Q
What in the world is a core vent anyway?
A
Well, if you are involved in the pattern, foundry, or injection molding industries you most likely already know. But, in case you don’t know, a core vent is exactly what it sounds like; a vent used for the release of air, or, sometimes gas in a mold or core. Slots or screen act as the vent and are used in such a way that air or gas built up within a mold or core is permitted to escape, while the actual sand, iron, foam, plastic, or other material cast for the mold remains intact.
Q
Where are core vents primarily used?
A
Sinel core vents can be used in sand cores, grey iron or ductile iron casting, lost foam, plastic injection molding, and isocure molds to name a few. Manufacturing core vents is our ONLY business, in fact, roughly 2000 combinations are possible! Just because the vent you need isn’t listed here doesn’t mean we can’t make something work for you.
Q
Why use Sinel core vents?
A
Well, for starters, Sinel Company has a pretty good history with core vents since we invented them! In 1932 a man named Carl Siler created the core vent (patent number 2,060,350) with the notion of allowing air to escape the mold, while keeping the sand from adhering to the vent so that the shape of the core or mold remains. Failure to use Sinel core vents allows the air to be contained within the mold, thus creating “soft” spots or “voids” in the core or mold. As those of you involved in this industry probably know, soft spots or voids allow for imperfections in the castings or mold being made. But, hey, if this isn’t convincing enough, just ask the person who taught you your trade. Odds are he or she were taught their trade with Sinel core vents, and their teacher taught them with Sinel core vents (we are four generations old).
Q
What if the core vent I need isn’t standard?
A
We realize that all molds do not have standardized venting requirements, therefore, we have a long history of creating and designing custom or specialized vents. Sinel Company is always happy to quote these items.
Q
Can we make any design you can think of?
A
No, of course not. Through the years, we’ve had designs submitted for quotation that ranged from unworkable to silly (one customer wanted the slots longer than the body of the vent!), but we have had mostly good success with helping our end users find a reasonable design that is both cost effective and feasible.
Q
How are Sinel custom core vent prices determined?
A
Well, like all businesses, we exist to make a reasonable profit. Special or custom jobs are quoted on time, and material, obviously, but other factors also come into play, such as quantity and, critically, available machine space.
Q
How do I get in touch with you to order Sinel core vents?
A
Our address, telephone number, and fax number are available on the contact page of this site. There is also an e-mail address posted for those of you interested in more information, but here’s the catch: For us to reply you must tell us what application you are using that might require core vents. Making core vents is a serious business, which means serious inquiries only. If you would like to sell us something, please move on. Oddsare we already have it, don’t need it, don’t want it, can’t use it, or don’t like it.
